39th National Track and Field Championship 2011.

Journal for 39th Track and Field Championship 2011
This afternoon I was so frustrated waiting to get a cab from Yishun Ring Road to Serangoon Stadium. I waited under the sun for almost 35 mins and try to call the hot line for a cab and no taxis are available. While waiting there is a Caucasian guy who stop his car and approached me where do I want to go? I thank him so much for the concern on me but I refuse to take his offer as he is heading to Orchard Road and me to Serangoon. Anyway he thanks me and left the place. Finally I manage to get a cab.
Reaching at Serangoon Stadium the first thing I saw my picture on the banners with some other athletes at the entrance and prize giving stage. Thanks to Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) Hey! Meet up with old friends and my former Coach Jacter Singh. Finally I manage to get my bib no 003 and represent for Handicap Welfare Association (HWA)
As usual did my warm up and test run around the field. Everything goes well and waited for my name to be call. While waiting I keep cheering other special athletes and at times I could not control myself and so emotion to see the spirit of never give up at these athletes. I told them, all of us is a winner and no one’s is a loser just FOCUS and do your best!
Every 30mins I keep doing my warm up and finally they call my name and I need to report at the holding room. Wah! It took me almost 5hrs to wait for my turn. HEY WAIT a minute! Category for 1500 meters and confirms I am the only T44 athlete to run on the track!!! But because of time limit I have no choice to run with 4 other school athletes. Wah! Below i8 vs. 43 years old, cool man!
I was at lane no. 8 with the other athletes. Have a short prayer and the gun shot. My first competitor was in front and I was on the second running on the slow pace and when the finale bells rang I put up my speed and run all the way and when I cross the finisher line I won the 3rd place but the first in my own category and congrats to them. I know my timing is good but let’s keep confidential. NICE!
Ladies and Gentlemen’s, 1500 meters, 1st goes to Saiful and 2nd goes to an Indian boy and now Men’s Open T44 athlete from HWA 1st goes to Md Shariff Abdullah (SBR) clap! clap! Clap! I went up there and took the medal from President of Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) Mr. Frankie. Thanks to him and I slowly went back to my seat and told Sidek Nooazah now all is over and see this place again in 2012.
Lots of my friends and competitors want me to come back next year but more. I mean 100m, 200m, 400m, 1500m, javelin, shot putt and discus. Also they want me to form a relay team for the amputees so by next year we can go for the international games on running. Well! I could not promise anything but I got my other plans too.  Too early to said anything.
Firstly thanks to Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) JP Morgan and other sponsors, the volunteers, my wife, friends for cheering, FB friends for wishing me and special thanks to Sidek Nooazah who company me all the way and her skins turn darker for sitting under the sun hehehe!
In the past we are failure and now we are success, keep going and never give up on hope.
Best Regards,
Singapore Blade Runner

JOURNEY TO SUNDOWN ULTRA MARATHON 2011

10 hours to Sundown

I wake up this morning and had prayer. Firstly thanks to God for giving me another day to live on and bless all my family and friends. Amin.

Later at 8am I will be heading to Macdonald for breakfast and need to be home by 9am for short break till noon. At 2pm I will be meeting with Endon and Ee Lin at Khatib MRT Station where we will all be going together.

As usual I need to be early approx 2 hours before the race start so I can fix everything especially the blade need to check.

1 hour to Sundown

All ready and set to go at 6pm. I had a short interview before the race starts. I know it's goanna be tough and I will try my best.
My journal and post mortem report for Sundown Ultra Marathon 2011.

Picture by courtesy of Chin C K

I feel uneasy during the first 2km from the starting point to the park connector. The inner prosthetic socket cover keeps turning back and I have to stop and adjust it. Reaching near the cross over bridge at Mountbatten Road I feel the same pressure and have no choice to run and walk all the way to the 10km point and check what cause the problem:-

Mistake
1) I should done a test run 1 hour before the race start.
2) Wrong inner prosthetic socket cover.
3) Never bring extra sock.

After check have been done and I have no choice but to keep moving, I know it’s goanna be tough as later I will be facing some experience of stump pain. Oh God! What have I done and can’t return back and change it. Please give me the strength to keep moving and less in pain.

Reaching at 20km point I have to remove the prosthetic leg and place ICE to cool down the pain. The volunteers are very kind and they help me to fill up the water bottles and even they offer me some food but I have no mood to eat and just took GU “Roctane Gels” it help me on my energy to keep moving and try my best to be at the 50km pit station by 1am.

Now is the time to test your mindsets as it will be a long way at Changi and I called it “The Killer” because it will affect your brain and ear especially the plane keep landing and moving up. The engine is so loud even I can’t hear music lol! Thanks God it’s over at 26km route.

Along the way nice to meet up with some friends and they offer me drinks, sweets and many more. Really appreciated and thanks but I just want to look for an extra sock for the prosthetic leg. I did some stretching on my body and apply “Jump Start” cream that helps me moving as I need to balance it between a good and prosthetic leg as 75% I will be using the pressure on the good muscle leg.

At 30km point as usual I have to remove the prosthetic leg for cooling down. I meet up with some runners there and we had a short chat. Anyway it’s too late to find extra socks at Changi Village as the shop are closed. My 30km timing is very bad as I been too many walking now has to keep moving fast. The design for the Flex Run prosthetic leg is for running not walking as later I may feel the experience of back pain but have no choice.

Hey! Meet up with our Sundown Champion runner near the Commando camp and he is so fast! Now where is the female Champion runner? I believe Sumiko will be the one, well let’s see and that already make me feel great and move fast. At Al-Istiqamah Mosque meet up with some friends too and thanks for giving me some fruits so that I will have more energy.

At 40km point It’s already tough for me as the pain at the stump is getting worse and I have 1 hrs 37 mins to the cut off time at Bedok but how could I complete it as I can’t run. Oh God! I will try my best and this is the time where I meet up with Alex Hong who is accompanying me to the 50km point. Thanks bro and I really appreciate it. You are the only person knows how I felt the 10km journey. Oh God! What had happen to the rest of the runners? I could only see some of them heading back to Pasir Ris and I salute you guys! You are my inspiration my hero! The only things I can do for them are to cheers and keep saying all the best and keep going. I wish to have two good legs like yours.

Reaching at 50km point and it’s already cut off time. I feel so sad, disappointed and angry on myself. If not because of the careless mistake I will perform well but thanks God I have no cramp, no injuries and no blisters at the good leg just the skin turns to blue at the stump area. After much training and guardian from Coach I know myself well. I know I can finish the 100km and I know I can do it well but we can’t predict what will be happen.

Thanks to Eliyah Osman and hers support team for being there and I really appreciate it. A big hug to you guys. As this is my final ultra to give way for Everest training but I always have my own rule, if I did not complete a run and I will return back again but here I really need to consider it. There is always another ultra at another time.

Here I will like to take this opportunity to congrats every ultra runner. My salute to you guys for completing this tough journey. Have a rest and recovery well!

To those who have not complete this run, A big RESPECT to you for taking up this challenge, remember every 1 km you cross already a winner. Try your best next year and learn from this mistake. "Every failure there will be success in future"

Special thanks to all the friends for being there to give support and cheering. You have a good heart and may God bless you always. I won’t forget till I close my eyes and once again thank you.

Thanks to the organizer of Sundown for having a great events and thanks to your wonderful volunteers for doing a good job!

Best Regards,

Singapore Blade Runner

Thursday 16 May 2011.

What do you learn from this picture? Nothing is impossible either you want or don’t want, all in your mind.

There’s a lot to learn before the dead line in Jan 2015, that why I take it slow and easy. Able and disable are different. They have two beautiful legs, I have one and half leg and the cost for my dream to Everest is most expensive.

Everest is no joke and I am 100% prepare for my mental. Either I can go up to the peak or not we can’t predict all in the hand of God. We can only pray to ask for blessing.

Running for marathon is strength training, not for timing and climbing a mountain is an achievement and I hope everything will goes well but to be honest financial is the issue. I have to raise $100,000 for this mission and that includes buying spare prosthetic leg, attend Technical Mountaineering Course and learn to climb few mountain especially on ice. This coming November right after SAC and my birthday I will be heading to New Zealand but where to find $5000.00 for this trip? The only thing I keep giving inspiration talk and earn money from that. Hope I can raise and the dream to Everest is a reality. Oh Allah please help me. Amin.

Monday 13 June 2011.

Dear Friends,

This coming 25 June 2011 at 6pm time to have another sleep can wait. This is our first virgin Sundown Ultra 100km race and that goes to me an amputee long distance runner from Singapore who just starts to be a runner since early 2009. I will be running and raising fund for the Charity during this run.

Since last year 84km for Sundown I left another 16km to cross the finisher line but was injured on the way. At that moment I told myself never give up in running and I will come back strong again. Running is my passion and to inspire everyone. As a full time athlete I have my own Coach and know my discipline rules and regulations very well.

Every runs does not matter in marathons or off road I am always focus and believe in myself. The first thing is to thanks to God for giving the strength. There are people’s who give good wishes and there are also who like to critics. To me as a Pro Runner with The North Face Singapore I always tell myself whatever the comments is I will take it and choose the good ones. There are people’s who like to give rumors and wanted to drop me (I think you know who you are) Congrats and keep going but remember wrong move or falsely information given I won’t lost anything but they will. God will punish them in any kind of way. I heard there are people’s who goanna gamble using my name for this run either I can finish or not and even to give problem during the run. As a safety a Police report had been made to protect myself. Well as I said all in the hand of GOD.

Meanwhile to all runners who will be participating in Sundown Ultra Marathon take it slow and easy. Its goanna be tough and lets motivated each other during the run. With God will I believe we can complete the run and achieve it.

To SBR Support Team lead by bro Ja Yao see you soonJ

To others do drop by along the course and give support. Your attendance will be much appreciated by all the runners. Once again thank you and may God bless you. Have a great and nice day everyone.

Best Regards,

Singapore Blade Runner (SBR)

Tuesday 24 May 2011.

Hi Runners, here I have some motivation or inspiration quote by Pro Athletes in the World to keep you going for the upcoming Sundown Marathon. ARE YOU READY?

"In running, it doesn't matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say, 'I have finished.' There is a lot of satisfaction in that." -Fred Lebow,
 New York City Marathon co-founder

"Running is a big question mark that's there each and every day. It asks you, 'Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today?'" - Peter Maher, Canadian marathon runner

The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start." -John Bingham, running speaker and writer

"We run, not because we think it is doing us good, but because we enjoy it and cannot help ourselves...The more restricted our society and work become, the more necessary it will be to find some outlet for this craving for freedom. No one can say, 'You must not run faster than this, or jump higher than that.' The human spirit is indomitable." -Sir Roger Bannister, first runner to run a sub-4 minute mile

"Racing teaches us to challenge ourselves. It teaches us to push beyond where we thought we could go. It helps us to find out what we are made of. This is what we do. This is what it's all about." PattiSue Plumer, U.S. Olympian

Running is beautiful take it easy and make it happen. SBR The North Face Singapore Athlete

The Sleep Can Wait is around the corner and I already feel it. Keep going, Keep smiling and Keep happening!

Saturday, May 21, 2011

Saturday 21 May 2011.

Running 100km ultra marathon with the cut off time 16 hours and organizer extended it up to 18 hours is not an issue to me. Why should I worry? After training very hard I already set my target anything below 16 hours is an achievement and anything below 13 hours is a bonus. To all the virgin ultra marathoners, remember take it easy and run safe. If you DNF it’s ok try again next year. See you guys on 25 June 2011.
Just keep focusing on training and do your best!

To all the runners who will be running the 100PLUS Passion Run 2011 all the best and see you guys later in the evening at ECP. Enjoy the run and have a safe one.

Thursday, May 19, 2011

Thursday 19 May 2011.

To all the running events organizer in Singapore especially the race Director, please consider in future to have disabled category in the race list. There are lots of disability athletes and does not matter they are running, wheel or other form of their way all are equal in the category. These special people’s need attention too. Once again thank you and have a nice day.

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

Wednesday 18 May 2011.

I would be taking part in the 39th National Track & Field Championship on Saturday, 9 July 2011 for 1500M Men’s Opens. Hope to achieve a good timing for this..
